Blenheim Primary School Multi Sensory Garden – April 2005

We worked with staff, pupils and parents of pupils in the nursery and reception classes to create a multi sensory environment.

Children’s book illustrations, Asafo flags (African textile flags) Matisse and symbols used in African and Mexican textiles were our inspiration. The workshops explored a range of making techniques including: designing a mural – painting, collage, print and wax rubbings making and glazing tiles, creating clay relief mini–beasts, mosaic making and englaze tile decorating.

The mosaic mural was one part of an installation, which also had a ‘garden’ of telegraph poles, embellished with recycled and found materials, musical steel branches and mosaic panel leaves.

Children and adults involved had ownership of the project through the workshops, from design through to the making and installation of the work.
