For arts week at St Gabrielís Primary School, Shine public Art were invited to work with pupils on a local heritage tile mural.
We created a rich and vibrant tile mural, now permanently on display in the playground and visible from the road.
Children made wonderful drawings of their local environment for the mural, including the London eye, their school, buses, and bridges.Their designs were drawn onto ceramic tiles with on-glaze ceramic paint and fired.
We then worked with representatives of each class in St. Gabrielís school as they in-filled the design with colour. We looked at colour mixing, viscosity of paint and mark making. Pupils also painted individual tiles with images of their local environment, e.g. houses, playgrounds, friends, plants, cats and dogs, planes and cars.
